No longer is Meditation the exclusive domain of Buddhists, Taoists, Sikhs, spiritualists and the like.
They have used it as a practical avenue for accessing inner states of tranquility, clarity and One-ness.
Now, it is popular across the world, encouraged by psychologists, psychiatrists, personal trainers and even mainstream medicos. They see it as a means of achieving significant health outcomes.
Recently the Mayo Clinic stated that meditation may help such conditions as:
-high blood pressure,
-sleep problems and
Over 3,000 scientific studies have shown the enormous value of learning and practicing it as a way of maintaining peak health.
The Menninger Clinic promotes meditation as an effective means of reducing pain, depression and fighting cancer.
Dr Dean Ornish, a US physician, has promoted it for many years as an effective means of reversing heart disease!
In one study by an Australian psychiatrist 10% of the cancer patients in his study were able to SIGNIFICANTLY SHRINK their tumours simply through Mindfulness meditation techniques.
I’ve been doing similarly myself for over 20 years.
Even the American Heart Foundation has grudgingly admitted that Transcendental meditation lowers blood pressure!
Research shows that regular practice of “going within” can lead to powerful outcomes such as:
– improved positive emotional states
– improved left brain activity
– improved creativity and awareness
– improved memory
– stress reduction
– pain reduction, especially with cancer, fibromyalgia and coronary heart disease
– reduction in cellular aging
– reduction in brain degeneration amongst seniors
– improved perceptions and much greater self-esteem
Of course, it all depends on the Meditation technique you utilize – or, even more importantly, how you use it!
Its many styles include Guided Imagery techniques, Transcendental, Mindfulness, Vipassana, Zazen, Insight,
Kundalini, Inner Stillness and Mantra.
